About the product

James Montgomery Flagg created this 1918 recruiting poster during the height of World War I, channeling the raw anger many Americans felt toward German atrocities. The Marine Corps recruiting office at 24 East 23rd Street in New York became the implied destination for anyone ready to turn outrage into action.

A furious man in vest and tie glares at the viewer, coat half-off and ready to fight, his hat and newspaper discarded at his feet. The headline blares "HUNS KILL WOMEN AND CHILDREN!"—a direct appeal to the Marine spirit of stepping up when others won't. Flagg, who illustrated many of the era's most iconic posters, knew exactly how to capture that moment of decision.

Printed from a high-resolution Library of Congress scan onto archival paper — a faithful reproduction of the public-domain original, made for your wall and not for a vault.
